Equipment

  • 1 Air fryer

Instructions

Preparation

  • Start by washing your peppers thoroughly and patting them dry. Cut them in half lengthwise and remove the seeds and membranes. This is the easiest way to ensure even cooking.

Oil and Season

  • Lightly coat the skin of the pepper with olive oil or avocado oil. This helps achieve those desirable black spots that indicate proper charring.

Air Fryer Setup

  • Place the peppers in your air fryer basket in a single layer. Don't overcrowd – this is crucial for achieving that perfect smoky flavor. You want the tops of the peppers to develop a nice char. If you're roasting multiple peppers, work in batches rather than stacking them.

Roasting Process

  • Set your air fryer to broil if your model has that function. If not, set it to 400°F (200°C). The total cooking time will be about 15-20 minutes, but this is a great way to customize the process based on your preferences. Flip the peppers halfway through cooking to ensure even charring.

Steam and Peel

  • Once the peppers are nicely charred with black spots developing across their surface, transfer them to a large bowl and cover with plastic wrap or place them in an airtight container. This steaming process makes removing the skin much easier. After about 10 minutes, you can easily peel away the skin, revealing perfectly roasted peppers underneath.
  • Slice the peppers into strips and season with salt and black pepper.

Notes

Note: Cook time will vary from one air fryer to another so check them starting at the 10-minute mark.
